ABOUT US

The Black Belt Community Development Corporation is a 501(c)(3) also known as BBCDC, a non-profit organization created to support and revitalize communities in the Black Belt especially those that are impoverished, under-served and unskilled laborers through education, advocacy, and partnership.

Traditionally, 17 Alabama counties--Barbour, Bullock, Butler, Choctaw, Crenshaw, Dallas, Greene, Hale, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Montgomery, Perry, Pike, Russell, Sumter, and Wilcox—Tuscaloosa were included in the region.

Our Focus

The Black Belt Community Development Corporation (BBCDC) aims to reverse the trend of disinvestment in the Black Belt through the redevelopment of state-of-the-art commercial properties, as well as offering social equity programs, financial education, job training, and entrepreneurship resources for Lower Alabama communities that will create momentum for ongoing improvements in the lives of people who live and work in the roughly 25 counties of the Alabama Black Belt and surrounding disadvantaged populations.

Our Mission is to be involved in a wide range of community services that meet local needs such as education, job training, voter registration, healthcare & mental health resources literacy programs, community nutrition, commercial development and social impact programs - all of which aims towards generational sustainability and growth in the Black Belt.

Our Services and Initiatives

The Black Belt Community Development Corporation is implementing and running several programs and initiatives to help revitalize the twenty-five counties of Alabama’s most vulnerable populations, and these are our impact areas:
  • Community Development

    BBCDC works towards the redevelopment of state-of-the-art commercial properties, aiming to reverse disinvestment trends in the Black Belt region.

    The organization provides resources and support to foster the growth and success of small businesses in the Black Belt communities.

  • Workforce Evolvement

    BBCDC focuses on developing a competitive workforce by offering job training and skills development programs, with the aim of attracting jobs and investments to the region.

  • Mentorship Programs

    The organization offers mentorship programs to support and guide individuals, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, in their personal and professional growth.

  • Black Belt Toy Drive

    BBCDC organizes the Black Belt Toy Drive to provide toys and gifts to children in need during the holiday season, spreading joy and support within the community.

  • Economic Development

    BBCDC works towards creating economic opportunities and promoting sustainable growth in the Black Belt region.

  • Driver's License Reinstatement Assistance

    The organization offers assistance to individuals who face challenges in reinstating their driver's licenses, which can be a barrier to employment and other opportunities.

  • Financial Literacy

    BBCDC provides financial education resources and programs to empower individuals with knowledge and skills for managing their finances effectively.

  • Voter Registration

    The organization actively promotes and facilitates voter registration in the Black Belt communities, aiming to increase civic engagement and ensure representation.

  • Social Impact Programs

    BBCDC implements various programs and initiatives that have a positive social impact on the communities it serves, addressing needs such as healthcare, mental health resources, literacy programs, community nutrition, and more.

Through these services and initiatives, BBCDC strives to achieve its vision of revitalizing communities in the Black Belt region, creating a competitive workforce, attracting investments, and fostering sustainable growth for future generations.

Health Is Wealth Fair

BBCDC partnered with University of Alabama Birmingham to educate the communities of Selma on Mental, Physical, Emotional, and Financial Health. Participants received access to COVID vaccinations, job opportunities, free children books and back packs.

Financial Literacy

The Black Belt CDC (BBCDC) Financial Literacy Program promotes prosperity and well being through one-on-one coaching and group setting. WACDC is a non-profit, whose efforts are designed to make basic financial and investment information and education available to the public at large, including under-served consumers, while helping strengthen local communities.
